The Sokoto State Government has disclosed that the state has recorded outstanding achievements in national examinations, saying the state can now compete favourably with any state in the federation.
Speaking to newsmen on Monday in Sokoto on behalf of the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Ahmed Ladan Ala, a senior official of the ministry said the feat was made possible by the enabling environment created by Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto for teachers, principals, vice-principals and students.
“Yes, the achievement we got in that national examinations was all based on the effort of His Excellency, the Executive Governor, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, because he provided a level environment for our teachers, principals, vice-principals and the students.
“That’s why our performance this year is highly commendable. We can compete with any other state in the federation,” he said.
Giving a breakdown of the results, he said: “In NECO, in WAEC, we have 81.4% in all the subjects. In all subjects.”
When asked if the figure includes Mathematics and English, he responded: “All subjects, 81.4%. If you come to NABTEB, we have 87% in all subjects. And then, in NECO, we have 70%. And if you come to NBAIS, we have 87%. So, you see, this is a very good achievement because of his effort.”
He said the impressive performance has positioned Sokoto children to gain admission into any higher institution in Nigeria.
On sustainability, he said the ministry under Prof. Ala will sustain rigorous monitoring and supervision of schools, assuring that all approvals and interventions granted by the governor to the education sector will be sustained.
“Continue monitoring, because His Excellency promised that all effort will be sustained. All the approvals he’s given to education sector for the enabling environment will continue.
“So you see there must be success in the near future. And we’ll try to double this by making sure that our children have 100% in the next coming examination,” he assured.
He appealed to the governor to sustain the tempo, while calling on the people of Sokoto State to appreciate and support the administration.
“My appeal to the governor is to sustain this because he has started a good effort and let him continue.
” And I’m calling on the people of Sokoto State to commend His Excellency, to understand that His Excellency is doing his best,” he said.
He also commended teachers and principals for their commitment and urged them to remain dedicated in order to sustain the gesture of Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto.
