Sokoto Gov’t To Periodically Engage Traditional Rulers On Dev’t Partners’ Interventions — Achida

The Sokoto State Government has said it will periodically engage traditional rulers to identify priority needs and interventions of their people from development partners working in the state.
The Commissioner for Budget and Economic Development, Dr. Bashir Muhammad Achida, disclosed this at the State 2027 Budget Town Hall Discussion held in Wurno Local Government Area for the Sokoto East Senatorial District.
According to him, the engagement will be done through the Ministry of Budget and Economic Development, which is responsible for the development of the state economy and coordinating the activities of development partners.
Achida said the idea is to ensure that their interventions align with the needs of the target communities and to avoid duplication and misplaced priorities.
He disclosed that the Ministry has been revamped by Governor Ahmed Aliyu to justify its mandate.
On the town hall meetings, the Commissioner described the engagements with citizens as very momentous, as they contributed inputs to the State budget process.
He acknowledged the support of UNICEF and the European Union, which he described as highly commendable.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Buhari Umar, emphasized the need for participants to present the needs of their communities for consideration.
He expressed delight over the large turnout and enthusiasm of individuals, traditional institutions, community leaders, civil society organisations, youth, women and people living with disabilities towards the exercise.
To this end, Umar announced that a grand finale will be organized where all the articulated views presented will be showcased and more additional views will be sought to fine-tune the process for a draft 2027 budget that will be presented to the executive for consideration.
In his remarks, the ALGON Chairman and Chairman of Tambuwal Local Government, Alhaji Abba Shehu Tambuwal, praised the foresight of Governor Ahmed Aliyu for approving the initiative of the budget ministry.
In his goodwill message, the Sultan, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, represented by the District Head of Wurno, Alhaji Kabiru Chigari Alhassan, appreciated the State Government for its recognition of traditional institutions.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Wurno Local Government Area, Alhaji Abba Isah Sadiq Achida, thanked the State Government for executing laudable projects across the local government areas.
Other speakers at the event included the Special Adviser on Economic Planning, Alhaji Abdullahi Ango Jabo, Chairmen of the local government areas under the Eastern Zone, representatives of people living with disabilities and that of the women group, among others.
