Nami pledges investment in mining sector to create jobs for Niger youths

Alhaji Mohammed Mamman Nami, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship Candidate in Niger, has pledged to attract investors into the state’s mining sector to create employment opportunities for youths.
Nami made the pledge on Tuesday when he paid condolence visits to families of deceased and surviving miners involved in the recent incident at the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Niger Command.
He visited the Miners Association of Nigeria, Niger State Chapter, in Minna, where he expressed sympathy with the affected families and stakeholders in the mining sector.
Nami said Niger State was endowed with abundant mineral resources which, if properly harnessed through responsible mining and investment, could contribute significantly to economic development and employment generation.
He said his administration, if elected, would create an enabling environment for investors in the mining sector, while promoting responsible mining practices and opportunities for young people to earn sustainable livelihoods.
The former Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) said the state could no longer afford to allow its natural resources to remain largely untapped when they could be used to stimulate economic activities and create jobs.
Nami also expressed sympathy with the families of the deceased miners, describing the incident as a painful loss to their families and communities.
As part of his support to the affected families, Nami donated a motorcycle to each family of the deceased miners and N500,000 each to the surviving victims.
He also donated N2 million to the Miners Association of Nigeria, Niger State Chapter, to support its activities and assist affected members.
Receiving the donations on behalf of the families and the association, the Chairman of the Miners Association of Nigeria, Niger State Chapter, appreciated Nami for the gesture.
The chairman urged other well-meaning individuals and organisations in the state to emulate the gesture and support the affected families during their period of grief and hardship.
Nami also paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Dr Aminu Yusuf, where he sympathised with the family over the loss.
He prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased and asked Allah to grant the family the strength to bear the irreparable loss.
