2027: NLC/TUC endorse Sokoto Governor for 2nd term

As the 2027 general elections are fast approaching, workers in Sokoto State have endorsed Gov. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto for a second term.
Our Correspondent in Sokoto reports that the endorsement was announced on Friday in Sokoto by the State Chairperson of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Alhaji Abdullahi Aliyu ”Jungle”.
Our Correspondent furthers that the endorsement was made on behalf of the workers at the celebration of the 2026 International Workers’ Day, with a theme, “Insecurity, Poverty — Bane of Decent Work”.
Jungle said, “You have done nothing wrong to us and you have been tremendously assisting us in many ways.Therefore, nothing warrants us to ask for a change of government in 2027.
“We are happy with all that you have been doing for us ..While in other states they are progressing today, here in Sokoto, we are elated.”
The NLC Chairperson, among others, acknowledged the full implementation of the N70,000 new national minimum wage, while the payment of salaries, pension and gratuity has been regular.”
He also unveiled an ” Award of Excellence “” to the Governor, saying, “this is the first time in the history of NLC/TUC in the state to bestow such awards on any Governor.”
Gov. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, who was represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Idris Muhammad Gobir, said that he has accepted the award wholeheartedly, saying that it will spur him to ramp up efforts to bolster the welfare of the workers at all levels.
Describing the day as historic, the Governor acknowledged the dedication, commitment and the colossal contributions of workers to societal development.
Gov. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto explained that his administration has taken deliberate steps to reinvigorate the civil service in the state to have a dignified workforce.
The Governor recalled that Sokoto State was the first to fully implement the N70,000 new national minimum wage for workers across board.
He also promised to do everything humanly possible to sustain the extant cordial relationship between labour and his administration.
The State’s Head of Service, Alhaji Abdulkadir Ahmed, acknowledged the dynamic leadership style of Gov. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto that had bolstered workers’ welfare.
Ahmed, however, appealed to the workers to reciprocate the myriad of gestures of the Governor by being dedicated, disciplined and professional to the core.
