SOKOTO STATE ADOPTS ONBOARDING ORIENTATION MANUAL FOR NEWLY RECRUITED TEACHERS

The Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Sokoto State, Professor Ahmad Ladan Ala, has described teachers as the most important component of the school system.
Professor Ala made the remark while delivering his address at the opening ceremony of a one day Validation and Adoption meeting on the Onboarding Orientation Manual held at Dan Kane Guest Palace, Sokoto. He stated that the workshop was convened to review, validate, and adopt the Orientation/Onboarding Manual in line with the outcomes of the Abuja Roundtable Meeting and the revised Teacher Training Guide.
According to the Commissioner, the manual is intended to provide education stakeholders with a standardized framework for orienting newly recruited teachers across the state, thereby promoting professionalism, efficiency, and quality service delivery in the education sector.
In their goodwill messages, the Executive Chairman of the Sokoto State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Umaru Nagwari, represented by Permanent Board Member Abdulkadir M. Gada, and the Executive Chairman of the Teachers Service Board, Professor Mustafa Tukur Namakka, commended Plan International and the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education for organizing the meeting.
They pledged their support towards ensuring that the document serves as a reference guide for the induction, orientation, and continuous professional development of teachers in Sokoto State.
Earlier, the Director of Quality Assurance, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Abdulkadir Umar Alkammawa, delivered the welcome remarks and emphasized the importance of a structured onboarding process for newly employed teachers.
A representative of Plan International, Julius Joseph make, presentation Who We Are, highlighting the organization’s mandate, achievements, and contributions to educational development.
The formal adoption of the Onboarding Orientation Manual was later conducted by Abdulkadir Umar Alkammawa on behalf of the Honourable Commissioner, signifying the state’s commitment to strengthening teacher capacity and improving learning outcomes.
Among the dignitaries who attended the workshop were the Executive Secretary of the Female Education Board, Shehu Aliyu; the Executive Secretary of the State Agency for Mass Education, Dr. Nura Bello Abubakar; the Executive Director of Nomadic Education, Tambari Dikko Goshe; the Special Adviser to the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Ahmed; and other stakeholders in the education sector.
The workshop concluded with a collective commitment by stakeholders to ensure the effective implementation of the onboarding manual and enhance the quality of teaching and learning across Sokoto State.
