The Governorship Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto State, Hon. Manir Muhammad Dan’iya (Walin Sokoto), has congratulated Muslims in Sokoto State, Nigeria, and across the world on the commencement of the Islamic New Year, 1448AH.
The congratulatory message follows the declaration by the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, that Tuesday, June 16, 2026, marks the beginning of Muharram 1448AH, ushering in a new Islamic calendar year.
In a statement issued by his Media Aide, Aminu Abdullahi, Hon. Dan’iya described the Islamic New Year as a period of reflection, gratitude, spiritual renewal, and renewed commitment to the values of peace, justice, compassion, and service to humanity as exemplified by the teachings of Islam.
He urged Muslims to use the occasion to pray for the continued peace, security, unity, and prosperity of Sokoto State and Nigeria, while also rededicating themselves to the principles of tolerance, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence.
According to him, “The commencement of a new Islamic year provides an opportunity for reflection on our individual and collective responsibilities towards building a more peaceful, united, and prosperous society. It is a time to strengthen our faith, renew our hope, and recommit ourselves to the values that promote harmony and progress.”
Hon. Dan’iya noted that the challenges confronting the nation require sustained prayers, patience, and collective efforts by citizens and leaders alike to promote understanding, development, and social cohesion.
He further called on religious leaders, community stakeholders, and the wider Muslim Ummah to continue playing their vital roles in fostering moral values, promoting peace, and supporting initiatives that enhance the welfare of the people.
“As we begin the year 1448AH, I pray that Almighty Allah grants our people good health, abundant blessings, security, and success in all their lawful endeavours. May this new year bring renewed hope, stability, and greater opportunities for our communities and our nation,” he stated.
The ADC gubernatorial candidate expressed optimism that through unity, faith, and responsible leadership, Sokoto State and Nigeria would continue to make progress towards achieving lasting peace and sustainable development.
He wished the entire Muslim Ummah a peaceful, prosperous, and spiritually rewarding Islamic New Year.
