The Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) National Financial Management Review Team has paid a monitoring visit to the Sokoto State L-PRES Project Implementation Unit.
The visit forms part of the World Bank’s commitment to ensuring compliance with financial management and procurement guidelines, as well as verifying that project funds are utilized for their intended purposes. It also provided an opportunity for constructive engagement between the National Financial Management Review Team and the Sokoto L-PRES team.
Addressing the staff, the Team Leader, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Bukola Imeh, described the visit as a supportive mission aimed at strengthening compliance with the project’s financial management procedures and ensuring adherence to the World Bank’s financial guidelines.
Mrs. Imeh expressed satisfaction with the financial management practices of the Sokoto L-PRES Project, commending the team for conducting its operations in an orderly, transparent, and efficient manner.
She noted that the project is currently focused on promoting economy and efficiency (value for money) by achieving the best balance between cost, quality, and expected benefits in project implementation.
The Team Leader emphasized that proper documentation is essential to the success of every project and urged all staff to ensure that their activities are adequately documented in line with the World Bank’s financial management procedures.
She also commended the State Project Coordinator (SPC) for ensuring that the project’s financial activities are conducted in accordance with the World Bank’s financial guidelines.
However, she pointed out a few areas requiring improvement, particularly regarding internal memos and documentation, and urged the Finance and Internal Audit Units to strengthen their record-keeping and ensure that all official correspondence is properly documented.
Earlier, in his opening remarks, the State Project Coordinator, Sirajo Abubakar, stated that the Sokoto State L-PRES Project has remained committed to ensuring strict compliance with the World Bank’s procurement and financial management procedures.
He assured the review team of the project’s continued commitment to transparency, accountability, and prudent management of project resources
