

Sokoto State Govt. commits to reforming justice sector, awards 3 contracts

The Sokoto State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Barrister Nasir Muhammad Binji , says the state government is fully committed to reforming the justice sector, with a view to bolstering the speedy dispensation of justice.
The Commissioner disclosed this on Saturday in Sokoto when he addressed newsmen shortly after the successful conduct of a Health Walk across Sokoto metropolis organized by the State chapter of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), as part of its 2026 Law Week celebrations.
The week, themed, ‘Secured Nation, Secured Future’, is holding from 9th April, to 16th April,2026.
According to the Attorney General, part of the three contracts recently awarded by the Sokoto State government was that for the construction of a new High Court Complex in the state.
Barrister Binji also said that the second contract was that for the rehabilitation of the State Court of Appeal as that for the construction three new office complexes as the Headquarters of the Ministry of Justice.
He said, ” All these contracts are going ok smoothly and according to the desired specifications.
“Therefore, the justice sector is getting the required attention from the administration of Gov. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto and we must all commend him for these noble gestures that have never been extended to the state Judiciary since 1976.”
Barrister Nasir Binji further applauded Gov. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto for sustaining a very cordial relationship between the NBA and the state government.
He recalled, ” Recently, the Governor donated a brand new bus to the NBA while he routinely extends support to the association.
“He even gave a handsome donation in aid of the successful organization of the ongoing Caliphate Law Week.
“This cordial relationship has both been cooperative and collaborative, hence it will boost the speedy dispensation of justice.
“Ensuring this is a tripartite responsibility that encompasses the Executive, the Judiciary and the Bar.
“The state government under Gov. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto is also fully committed to protecting the rights of the citizens as justice delayed, is justice denied.”
Also speaking, the Chairperson of the NBA in the state, Barrister Rashidat Mohammed, said that the health walk was organized to create the necessary awareness on various health issues, especially mental health.
According to her, mental health impacts on the daily lives of the Nigerian citizens, including Lawyers.
“That is why we have arranged a medical outreach to avail our members with the ample opportunity to check their health statuses while a lecture will be delivered on mental health.”
