Breaking: Sokoto State PDP Chairman resigns

The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP,), in Sokoto State, Alhaji Muhammad Bello Aliyu Goronyo, has resigned his membership of the party.
In a resignation letter dated 30th August, 2026 addressed to the PDP Chairman of Goronyo Ward, Goronyo said his resignation takes effect from 31st August, 2026.
He attributed his decision to “personal reasons’.
“I hereby formally notify you of my intention to resign my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Goronyo Ward, Goronyo Local Government Area, effective from today, 31st August, 2026.
” The reason for my resignation is purely personal,” he wrote.
The State Chairman thanked the party leadership and members for the opportunity to serve and for the experiences gained during his tenure.
He also requested that his name be removed from the party’s membership register accordingly.
Goronyo’s resignation comes as a major blow to the PDP in Sokoto State, given his position as the head of the party structure in the state.
The development is expected to trigger reactions and possible realignments within the party ahead of future political activities in the state.
