Sermon: Zamfara Imam admonishes Muslims against betrayals, blackmail, lies for personal gains

Sheikh Ra’is Sodangi, the Chief Imam of the Muslim-Foundation Juma’at Mosque, Gusau, has admonished the faithful against betrayals, lies and backbiting.
Sodangi warned that such acts have destroyed moral as well as communal values and relationships.
The Islamic cleric made the call on Friday while delivering Juma’at Sermon at the mosque in Gusau.
Sodangi said the old relationship trust that existed among communities and individuals had been eroded due to loss in trust mostly caused by betrayals, lies and backstabbing by individuals.
He noted that most of the social and security challenges faced by many societies are due to such acts by individuals seeking favours, recognition or personal gain.
He said the vices had played a major role in destroying peace and unity across communities resulting in the present social as well as security challenges faced by many societies.
According to Sodangi, a community built on deceit and betrayal cannot stand, stressing that Islam places high premium on honesty and keeping trust.
He said Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) strongly prohibited betrayal and dishonesty among Muslims.
He urged believers to uphold the virtues of trustworthiness, sincerity in all their dealings.
“Lack of trustworthiness, betrayals, lies and backbiting always destroy peace among community people.
“When lies are allowed to thrive in daily life, they gradually erode moral values and eventually lead to the collapse of communal harmony.
” Muslims must be seen to be trustworthy among themselves and to avoid all forms of treachery, including name calling, defamation or tarnishing the images of others in pursuit of selfish or worldly gains,” he said.
The cleric further admonished the Muslim ummah to guard their tongues and refrain from utterances capable of affecting the dignity of individuals or groups, especially for material benefits.
He emphasised that true believers must respect trust, uphold truth, and shun acts that undermine the honour of fellow Muslims.
Sodangi offered prayers for peace, unity and moral reawakening in Zamfara and the country at large.END
