The Wife of the Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nafisa Nasir Idris, has been honoured with the title of PPH Champion by Jhpiego, an international non-profit global health organization affiliated with Johns Hopkins University. The organization partners with governments, healthcare workers, and communities to strengthen health systems and expand access to quality, lifesaving healthcare services for women, children, and families worldwide.

Speaking during the presentation, Dr. Nafisa Nasir Idris expressed appreciation to the organization for the honour bestowed on her as a PPH Champion. She pledged her maximum support towards the organization’s mission and assured the delegation that she would present their request to her husband, Governor Nasir Idris, for the implementation and use of calibrated drips in hospitals across the state.

Earlier in her remarks, the leader of the delegation, Mrs. Endurance Bako, said the purpose of the visit was to enlighten the Governor’s wife on the importance of the calibrated drip in saving pregnant women during childbirth, as well as to formally decorate her as a PPH Champion.

Mrs. Bako appealed to the Kebbi State Government to procure calibrated drips and make them available in all hospitals across the state, stressing that every pregnant woman deserves access to one during childbirth.

Other speakers at the event commended Governor Nasir Idris for his commitment and support toward improving the healthcare system in Kebbi State.

In an interview with journalists, Mrs. Endurance Bako explained that the calibrated drip is used for the objective measurement of blood loss after delivery. She noted that, in the past, doctors and nurses often relied on estimates of blood loss, but with the calibrated drip, blood loss can now be measured accurately, enabling prompt medical intervention when necessary.

The event was attended by healthcare personnel, development partners, the SDGs focal person, members of the Elders Forum, and representatives of the NANAS Foundation.

The highlight of the visit was the presentation of gifts and the decoration of the Wife of the Governor as a PPH Champion.
