The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), NUJ Sokoto State Council, announces its forthcoming Congress, a key professional gathering aimed at bringing together journalists and stakeholders to deliberate on issues relating to media practice, ethical journalism, and pressing socio-economic challenges affecting society.
The Congress is scheduled to hold on Saturday, 23rd May, 2026, at the NUJ Press Centre, beginning at 10:00am.
As part of the intellectual engagement of the Congress, a paper titled, “The Role of Zakat and Waqf in Poverty Alleviation and Humanitarian Service: The Responsibility of the Media,” will be presented. The paper is expected to deepen understanding of the contribution of zakat and waqf institutions to poverty reduction, humanitarian service delivery, and social development, while emphasizing the critical role of the media in promoting awareness, transparency, and accountability in welfare-related matters.
The Council has invited the Chairman of the Sokoto State Zakat and Endowment (Waqf) Board, Muhammad Lawal Maidoki, to present the paper in recognition of his leadership and experience in the sector.
